By Charles Maduka

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has donated N22 million to the families of 22 Kano athletes who died in a tragic motor accident on Saturday.

During a condolence visit to the bereaved families at the Gwagwarwa Juma’a Mosque in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Barau expressed deep sorrow over the incident and pledged N1 million to each affected family.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Barau described the loss as one that touches the entire nation, not just the families and sporting community.

“We are here to register our condolences over this tragic and devastating incident. May Allah grant them Aljannatul Firdausi and give you the strength to bear the loss,” he said.

The Deputy Senate President was accompanied by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Atta; Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji; and other dignitaries, including former lawmaker Faruk Lawan, APC chieftains, clerics, and community leaders.

Receiving the delegation, the Chief Imam of the Gwagwarwa Juma’a Mosque, Sheikh Adda’u Aliyu, commended Barau for the donation and his presence, noting that the support would greatly assist the grieving families.

“We are grateful that you took time to visit and sympathize with us. Your generosity and concern go beyond your Senatorial District, and we pray that Almighty Allah rewards you abundantly,” the Imam said.

Special prayers were offered during the visit for the souls of the deceased athletes.
