Tragedy struck in Nasarawa State on Wednesday as suspected armed robbers ambushed a joint security patrol team along the Idadu–Agbashi Road in Doma Local Government Area, killing a police inspector and two vigilante operatives.
According to reliable sources, the victims were identified as Inspector Christopher Enoh, and two vigilante members — Mathew John and Augustine Yusuf — all residents of Agbashi town. The team was reportedly conducting a routine patrol of the area when the gunmen launched a surprise attack.
Security sources told Starnews NG that the attackers opened heavy fire on the patrol vehicle, killing the three security personnel instantly before carting away an AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition belonging to the late Inspector.
“The ambush happened suddenly; they didn’t even have time to defend themselves. The assailants shot from close range and escaped through the bush path,” a local source disclosed.
The remains of the deceased officers were later evacuated and deposited at the Agbashi General Hospital mortuary, while security agencies have intensified operations in the area to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen weapon.
A top security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who confirmed the incident, described it as “a sad reminder of the dangers security operatives face daily in the line of duty.”
Meanwhile, residents of the area have called on both the Nasarawa State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen patrol operations along rural roads that have become hotspots for ambushes and robberies.
The latest attack adds to a series of violent incidents targeting security personnel in Nasarawa and other parts of North-Central Nigeria, raising renewed concerns about rising insecurity and the safety of communities in the region.
