The precarious state of Ayetoro has taken centre stage at the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), as Chairman Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye vowed urgent interventions to prevent the community from collapsing.
Speaking during a visit from All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Chairmen from Ilaje Local Government Area on Monday, Prince Poroye warned that the fallout from the total collapse of Ayetoro—“God forbid” would extend well beyond the community, affecting both Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas.
He described safeguarding the town as a collective responsibility, stressing that coordinated action is imperative.
The OSOPADEC chief disclosed that the Commission has launched a baseline assessment in Ayetoro, which will guide a targeted intervention involving international technical partners.
He assured residents that infrastructure projects, including the Aboto–Atijere Road, would receive renewed attention as part of the Commission’s drive to boost welfare and development in oil-producing communities.
Prince Poroye urged local leaders to maintain steady engagement with institutions in their areas, saying such interactions could bring tangible benefits to constituents.
He also commended the APC ward chairmen for their proactive engagement, noting that effective governance requires continuous dialogue with the grassroots.
Chief Felix Mebawondun, Ugbo Ward 3 APC Chairman and leader of the delegation, praised OSOPADEC’s efforts in communities affected by sea incursion.
He highlighted the Commission’s recent collaboration with technical teams from Ghana and China, describing it as a strong indication of government’s seriousness in tackling environmental threats that have long plagued coastal towns like Ayetoro.
Chief Mebawondun further appealed for improved welfare for party members, pointing out that, with the State Governor originating from the area, residents expect accelerated development.
The meeting was attended by OSOPADEC’s Executive Director of Finance, Malam Mallon Ogbaro; Secretary, Princess Abike Bayo-Ilawole, PhD; Director of Administration and Supplies, Ap. ’Sola Orisamoluwa; and other senior management staff of the agency.
