Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has revealed that one of the church’s pastors was arrested abroad for greeting an audience as “ladies and gentlemen.”
Speaking during the church’s monthly thanksgiving service at the RCCG Throne of Grace in Lagos on Sunday, Adeboye explained that the phrase was considered discriminatory in the country where the arrest occurred, as it failed to include other gender identities recognized in their culture.
“The end is nearer than you think. Things are getting worse, and this is a wake-up call. One of my pastors abroad was arrested for simply addressing a gathering as ‘ladies and gentlemen,’” he said. “Some people complained, asking, ‘What about those who are neither ladies nor gentlemen?’”
The sermon, titled My Father’s House, was broadcast across RCCG parishes globally. Adeboye used the incident to highlight what he described as the moral decline in society and the increasing challenges Christians face in defending their beliefs.
He also shared a troubling story about a woman abroad who described her dog as her husband. According to Adeboye, when asked about her spouse, the woman responded, “I took him to the vet before coming. He doesn’t talk,” referring to her dog as her partner.
“These are signs of the end times,” Adeboye warned, urging Christians to remain firm in their faith. “If you’re already in Christ, take this seriously. God is holy. And if you’re still playing church—singing, clapping, and pretending without commitment—know that Jesus is coming back. The devil wants to harvest you, but don’t give him the chance. I want to see you in my Father’s house.”
Adeboye has also spoken out against modern trends he believes conflict with Christian values. At RCCG’s 72nd annual convention in August, themed Heaven, he criticized men with braided hair and women with false eyelashes and heavy makeup, declaring that such appearances would no longer be permitted on RCCG altars.
The convention, held from August 5 to 11 at Redemption City, Mowe, Ogun State, emphasized Adeboye’s call for a return to spiritual discipline and adherence to biblical principles.
