The Oyo State Police Command has successfully disrupted a human trafficking ring in Ibadan, the state capital. During a raid on a building in the Orogun area, officers rescued 83 adults and one child who were being held against their will.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the victims, believed to be from the Democratic Republic of Congo, were lured to Nigeria with false promises of job opportunities.
Authorities also revealed that the traffickers had extorted significant sums of money in U.S. dollars from the victims’ families as part of their operation.
The rescued individuals have been taken to the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, where investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the trafficking network.
