The Lagos State Police have refuted reports suggesting that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were arrested in the state.
The claims, published in a newspaper on April 17, 2025, were dismissed by the police as entirely false.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, clarified that after the report was published, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered an investigation to verify the claims.
The investigation revealed that there was no evidence of Boko Haram members being present or arrested in any part of Lagos, including the trailer park areas mentioned in the report.
The authorities also conducted checks in these locations, speaking to local leaders and residents, who confirmed that no such arrests had occurred.
Hundeyin urged the public to ignore the news as it was misleading and created unnecessary panic.
He reassured Lagos residents that the police are committed to ensuring their safety and urged them to continue their daily activities without fear.
The police spokesperson also advised media outlets to be cautious with reporting and to verify facts before publishing to avoid spreading false information.
He encouraged anyone who notices suspicious activity to report it to the authorities immediately.
