The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has launched the enforcement of mandatory third-party insurance for all vehicle owners across the country, effective today.
This initiative follows the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, aimed at enhancing road safety and ensuring compliance with insurance regulations.
In a statement released on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reminded vehicle owners that they must possess valid third-party insurance to legally operate their vehicles.
Those found without insurance will face fines or other penalties as outlined in the law.
The enforcement is set to take place nationwide, with police officers empowered to conduct checks and enforce compliance.
IGP Egbetokun has instructed state commissioners of police to oversee the process and ensure strict adherence to the policy.
The NPF stressed that the initiative is designed to protect road users by holding vehicle owners accountable for their responsibilities and reducing the risks associated with uninsured drivers.
Motorists without valid third-party insurance have been urged to secure coverage immediately to avoid any disruptions or penalties.
The police further called on the public to cooperate with authorities in achieving the goal of safer roads for all.
