Nigeria’s sprint hurdler and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 Paris Diamond League on Friday, clocking a season-best time of 12.24 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles.
Her time, the second-fastest of her career, comes just behind her 2022 world record of 12.12 seconds.
Amusan made a strong push in the final stretch of the race, nearly catching up with American Grace Stark, who had a lightning-fast start and held on to win in 12.21 seconds — a new personal best and meet record. Stark’s time now ranks her as the fifth-fastest woman in the event’s history.
Jamaican hurdler Ackera Nugent claimed third place with a time of 12.30 seconds.
The Paris race marked a significant milestone in Amusan’s 2025 campaign, which has shown steady improvement. She began the season with fourth-place finishes in Xiamen (12.74s) and Shaoxing (12.66s), before bouncing back in Rabat last month with a 12.45-second run — her first Diamond League victory of the season and a meet record.
Paris was Amusan’s fourth Diamond League appearance this year, and she faced a stacked lineup that included the likes of world medallist Keni Harrison, Jamaica’s Nugent, Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, Dutch athlete Nadine Visser, Bahamian Devynne Charlton, and the current Diamond League leader, Grace Stark.
Despite the fierce competition, Amusan’s experience and rising form saw her finish strongly, earning crucial points in the race towards the Diamond League finals in Zurich.
With 10 points, Amusan currently ranks fourth in the overall standings, trailing Stark (23 points), Danielle Williams (15), and Marione Fourie (12).
As the World Championships draw closer, the Nigerian star appears to be hitting top form at the right time, signaling a potential return to the podium — and possibly another historic run.
