The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected dealer in stolen and vandalized property, Mr. Elijah Etim Nyah, following a targeted operation in Ikot Ekpene.

The arrest, confirmed in a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, was carried out on July 28, 2025, based on credible intelligence and the confession of a previously apprehended suspect.

According to the statement, police operatives raided a black spot at No. 56 Aba Road, Ikot Ekpene, at approximately 3:45 PM, where they recovered a number of items believed to be stolen, including electric wires and an iron protector. The recovered materials are suspected to have been stolen from an abandoned Chambers of Commerce building located on Etokebe Street, Ikot Ekpene.

Further investigations led officers to a nearby shop and premises on the same Aba Road, where Mr. Elijah Etim Nyah, a resident of Okonna Street, Ikot Ekpene, was arrested as the suspected receiver of the stolen goods.

Items recovered from his possession include:

Assorted cut-to-size PHED electric cables

Different sizes of burnt and peeled electric copper wires

Cut-to-size aluminum roofing sheets

DSP John noted that the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue. She assured the public that Mr. Nyah will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains committed to ridding the state of criminal elements and bringing all offenders to justice,” the statement added.
