The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a lone councillorship seat in the Lagos State local government elections, a notable development in a state where the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds a longstanding dominance.
The PDP’s candidate, Babatunde Dosunmu, emerged victorious in Ward D of the Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), defeating his APC opponent. Dosunmu was previously affiliated with the APC but switched to the PDP ahead of the polls.
The election day in Yaba saw brief unrest as party loyalists clashed, but swift action by officers from the Lagos State Police Command restored calm, allowing voting to proceed smoothly.
Although the PDP managed to win only one seat out of the 376 contested across the state, the result in Yaba is seen as a symbolic achievement for the opposition party.
