PDP NWC pledge support for Udeh-Okoye as Secretary, acknowledge Fubara’s leadership in Rivers

Members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have thrown their full support behind the Appeal Court ruling that affirmed Rt. Hon Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary.

According to Politics Nigeria, Mr. Yayari Ahmed Mohammed, the PDP National Treasurer, revealed that 14 out of the 17 NWC members are united in their endorsement of Udeh-Okoye’s position. He made this statement during a meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Mr. Yayari pointed out that no higher court ruling has overturned the Appeal Court’s decision. “To date, there has been no legal challenge or court ruling that invalidates the Appeal Court’s decision. We are here to assure the governors that the majority of the NWC is aligned with Okoye as the National Secretary, and we are committed to working with him. We also request the governors’ endorsement of the judgment,” he stated.

In addition, Mr. Yayari confirmed Governor Fubara as the leader of the PDP in Rivers State, as per the party’s policy, which designates sitting governors as automatic leaders of the party in their respective states.

“The Governor is the leader of the PDP in Rivers State. Our party’s policy is clear—every sitting governor is the leader of the PDP in their state. We came to consult with our leader, assure him of our unwavering support, and encourage him to continue strengthening the PDP in Rivers. We also call on the people of the state to join forces with him, back his leadership, and enjoy the benefits of the ongoing democratic development,” Mr. Yayari concluded.
