Pastor arraigned for allegedly stealing laptops, phones in Lagos

A 32-year-old pastor, Emmanuel Anthony, was brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly stealing laptops and phones worth N2.2 million.

Anthony, who resides in Iwoye, Oju Ore, Ota, Ogun State, is facing charges of unlawful invasion and theft. He pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Inspector Innocent Odugbo informed the court that the alleged crime took place on February 24 at Emmanuel Street, Abule Egba, Lagos.

According to Odugbo, the defendant, who was acquainted with the complainant, Chioma Okeke, from their hometown, visited her residence under the pretense of a friendly visit.

While Okeke stepped out to buy food items, Anthony reportedly entered her room and stole two laptops, two iPhones, and N60,000 in cash.

The total value of the stolen items was estimated at N2,240,000.

The prosecutor stated that the offense violated Sections 287 and 308 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Magistrate S. O. Obasa granted Anthony bail in the sum of N200,000, requiring two sureties of equal amount.
