Police Arrest 100 Suspected Criminals in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of no fewer than 100 suspected criminals across the 18 local government areas of the state.

According to the Command, the suspects were apprehended for their alleged involvement in serious crimes including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of drugs, fraud, theft, and vandalization, among others.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the arrests were made possible through the combined efforts of security operatives and the cooperation of residents who provided credible information.

“In the past weeks, our command has recorded remarkable breakthroughs in crime prevention, detection, and prosecution—achievements that reflect not only the gallant efforts of our officers and men, but also the invaluable cooperation of the good people of Ondo State,” the CP said.

He gave a breakdown of the arrests: murder (1), kidnapping (4), armed robbery (11), cultism (45), unlawful possession of drugs (16), fraud/obtaining by false pretense (1), theft and receiving stolen property (5), vandalization (3), vehicle-related crimes (4), arms supplier/illegal possession of ammunition (1), and other robbery-linked suspects (9).

Items recovered from the suspects include five locally made guns, 30 rounds of AA cartridges, forged vehicle documents (15), stolen vehicles (3), motorcycles (8), fake or unauthorized number plates (including government and spy), as well as assorted stolen property such as mobile phones, jewelry, mattresses, pressing irons, and SIM cards.

Lawal stressed that the feat underscored the unwavering commitment of the command to the protection of lives and property across the state. He added that the successes were also in line with the strategic direction of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, whose leadership continues to drive professionalism within the force.
