The Ondo State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has called off its indefinite strike, which lasted four days.
According to NAN, in a statement issued on Monday in Akure, the association’s Public Relations Officer, Lucky Aremu, confirmed the suspension, attributing the decision to discussions with the state government that resulted in commitments to address the nurses’ grievances.
“NANNM officially announces the suspension of the industrial action undertaken by nurses across all state public health facilities. This follows a series of negotiations with the Ondo State Government, during which assurances were given to resolve our concerns,” Aremu stated.
The association had embarked on the strike to demand better remuneration, improved welfare, resolution of conversion-related issues, and enhanced working conditions.
Aremu commended members for their dedication and unity throughout the strike, acknowledging their efforts in amplifying the association’s demands. He also expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and support.
He directed all affected nurses and midwives to resume duty on Tuesday, while stressing that the association would continue to monitor the government’s response.
“Although the strike has been suspended, we remain vigilant. If the government fails to fulfill its promises, we will not hesitate to take appropriate action,” he warned.
