Ogun assembly summons traditional ruler for alleged land grabbing

The Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned Oba Taofeek Kayode, the Olu of Obafemi in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, to appear on Wednesday to address allegations of land grabbing.

Oluseun Adesanya, Chairman of the House Committee on Justice, Ethics, and Public Petitions, issued the summons during a committee meeting in Abeokuta on Monday.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Agboro Latunde Community Development Association, including Chairman Olaseni Adeoye and Secretary Koyade Onitande.

The association accused the traditional ruler of forcibly seizing land from community members.

Adesanya, along with other lawmakers, emphasized that summoning the traditional ruler was necessary as part of the assembly’s quasi-judicial functions, ensuring that all parties receive a fair hearing according to the rule of law.

He noted that the petitions against the Olu of Obafemi included allegations of land grabbing, threats to life, and actions that could lead to communal clashes in the Agboro Community.

Adesanya warned that failure to comply with the summons could lead the assembly to involve security agencies to take appropriate actions.
