Oborevwori Slams Tinubu’s Economic Policies, Labels Them a ‘Pathway to Poverty’

By: Bayero Ade

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has taken a swipe at the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s APC-led government, accusing them of plunging Nigerians deeper into poverty.

Oborevwori criticized key measures such as the removal of the petroleum subsidy and the floating of the Naira, claiming they have led to skyrocketing inflation, currency devaluation, and widespread hardship. According to him, these policies, rather than bringing relief, have worsened the economic situation for millions of Nigerians.

His remarks came as a response to comments made by former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, who praised Tinubu’s economic agenda at an APC event while accusing the Delta State government of mismanaging federal allocations.

In a sharp rebuttal, Oborevwori questioned the rationale of celebrating policies that have left over 130 million Nigerians living below the poverty line, as reported by the World Bank and IMF. He further argued that inflation has diminished the value of increased federal allocations, making life unbearable for ordinary citizens.

“Is this the economic blueprint Omo-Agege wants Delta to follow?” Oborevwori asked. “A model that has unleashed untold hardship and left Nigeria as the poverty capital of the world?”

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to shielding Delta State from the negative effects of federal policies, stating that his administration would prioritize measures that alleviate suffering and improve the lives of the people.
