OAU Students’ Union Demands Immediate Reversal Of Tuition, Hostel Fees

Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, under the umbrella of Great Ife Students’ Union, have demanded the immediate reversal of the increment of the school’s tuition and hostel accommodation fees by its management.

The students’ union made the demand in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its President, Omoboriowo Damilola Isaac, Secretary General, Babatimehin Kinfeosi Joy and PRO, Aka Daniel’s E., where they rejected the sudden 50% and 100% increment of their school fees and hostel accommodation fees.

According to the statement, the management of the university in an emergency meeting took a decision and informed the students of the increment.

The union, who vowed to resist the increment, said, “In an emergency meeting, held at the level of the DSA (Division of Students’ Affairs), the school management, via the DSA informed us of a proposed 50% and 100% increment in some of our charges (the payable sundry charge called ‘school fees’ by us, and the accommodation fees respectively).

“We vehemently oppose this drastic and rash increment in fees. As a United Union, we prioritize the interests of each and every one of us and are committed to protecting our well-being.

“Be rest assured that we are actively engaging the school management to ensure that this increment does not stand. We are exploring all measures to make sure our interests stand.

“We reiterate our stance against any form of exploitation or unfair treatment of one and all students of Great Ife. We will continue to advocate for a total reversal.”
