Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Aloy Ejimakor Recuperating, Still In Kuje Clinic With Collar Brace

Nnamdi Kanu’s Special Counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, is reportedly recuperating but remains in the Kuje Correctional Centre clinic in Abuja, where he is being treated with a collar brace after sustaining injuries allegedly inflicted by police officers during his arrest last week.

Ejimakor was among those arrested and allegedly brutalised by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow peaceful protest held in Abuja on Monday. He was detained alongside Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and several others.

According to his colleague, Barrister Maxwell Opara, who visited him at the detention facility, Ejimakor is in a delicate state and under medical supervision. Opara confirmed that the ailing lawyer has been confined to the Kuje prison clinic since his arrest and has been struggling to stand or sit upright.

Sources within the correctional facility told Sahara Reporters that Ejimakor’s condition deteriorated after Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id of the Kuje Magistrate Court allegedly refused to sign the bail bond for his release — 24 hours after bail had been granted.
Following his arrest, Ejimakor and others were reportedly teargassed, beaten, and detained overnight at the SARS unit known as “Abattoir” before being arraigned the next day without legal representation.

The Magistrate, who later granted them bail, was said to have left the court premises without endorsing their release documents, leading to their continued detention.

Human rights activist and two-time presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who was also arraigned alongside Ejimakor and others, has since been granted bail. However, Ejimakor remains in custody amid growing concerns over his deteriorating health.

As of Sunday, the detained lawyer was still receiving care at the Kuje prison clinic, where medical personnel are attending to him. Reports indicate that he might soon be transferred to an external hospital if his condition worsens.
