The Nigerian Army has taken into custody a 25-year-old woman, Shamsiyya Ahadu, over allegations of providing arms and ammunition to Bello Turji, a notorious terrorist leader.
Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Sunday, December 29.
Ahadu, along with her accomplice, Ahmed Husaini, a motorbike operator, was apprehended on December 28 in the Badarawa area of Shinkafi Local Government Area in Zamfara State.
During the operation, soldiers reportedly recovered 764 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and six magazines that were allegedly being transported to Turji’s camp. The arrest was carried out by troops under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Hadarin Daji, following intelligence reports about the movement of supplies for terrorists between the Kware and Badarawa communities.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi stated that the suspects are under investigation to determine the full extent of their involvement in the illegal activities.
Bello Turji, a prominent terrorist figure in Zamfara and neighboring states, has been linked to several violent acts. Recently, he issued threats of retaliation over the detention of individuals he claimed were innocent community members.
The Army expressed appreciation to the public for their cooperation and encouraged citizens to continue providing credible information to aid the fight against terrorism in the region.
“This operation highlights the significance of collaboration between the military and civilians. We urge the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity,” the statement concluded.
