Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 29, at his home in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by family. He reached the remarkable age of 100, making him the longest-living president in American history.
Carter is survived by his four children—Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy—along with 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Rosalynn, and one grandchild.
“My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and selfless love,” remarked Chip Carter, the former president’s son. “My siblings and I shared him with the world through his values. He united people, and we are grateful for your commitment to honoring his legacy by upholding these shared ideals.”
Public memorial services will be held in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., followed by a private burial in Plains, Georgia. Details regarding President Carter’s state funeral, including public events and the motorcade route, are still being finalized and will be announced by the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region.
