Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has announced a revision of the curfew on the movement of motorcycles and tricycles in Minna, the state capital.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Bologi, the governor said the new curfew hours will now be from 8pm to 6am daily.
This adjustment follows an earlier executive order on April 29, which had restricted the movement of commercial motorcycles and tricycles, commonly known as Keke NAPEP, from 6pm to 6am. The initial curfew was introduced as a response to rising criminal activities involving hoodlums using such vehicles to rob residents while wielding weapons like guns, knives, and daggers.
Governor Bago explained that the new timeframe was adopted based on recent security reports from the state’s security committee. He assured residents that his administration would continue to assess the situation and make further adjustments as necessary.
The governor urged citizens to remain law-abiding and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring their safety and well-being through people-oriented policies.
Earlier on April 23, a broader restriction was placed on the use of motorcycles and tricycles from 6am to 6pm in response to increasing incidents of thuggery in Minna.
The restriction is part of a broader effort by the state government to curb insecurity and restore public order in the metropolis.
