NANS Demands JAMB Registrar’s Resignation Over UTME Errors

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for the immediate resignation of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, following his admission of errors in the recently conducted 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement released on Thursday by the association’s National PRO, Samson Adeyemi, NANS described the situation as a severe failure of leadership, stating that the mistakes made by JAMB were not just technical issues but a reflection of deep institutional incompetence.

“This catastrophic failure has shattered the dreams of countless students, subjected them to untold psychological distress, and, in this case, driven a young scholar to the ultimate despair,” Adeyemi stated, referring to a suicide case involving a student in Ikorodu, Lagos, who reportedly took her life after receiving a faulty UTME score.

The development comes a day after Prof. Oloyede, during a press briefing in Abuja, tearfully accepted full responsibility for the errors, announcing that all affected candidates would be allowed to retake the exam.

However, NANS insisted that an apology and a rescheduled exam are not enough. “JAMB’s admission of errors, especially in Lagos and the South-East, is a damning indictment. This is not just an administrative lapse—it is an institutional disgrace,” the group said.

The student body demanded that Prof. Oloyede step down immediately, arguing that his continued leadership would undermine public confidence in JAMB.

“JAMB must bear full responsibility for this failure and provide financial, psychological, and legal support to the family of the deceased,” Adeyemi said.

He further emphasized that NANS would closely monitor the rescheduled UTME for the 379,997 affected candidates and would not accept any further lapses from the board.

Concluding the statement, NANS urged the Federal Government to urgently reform JAMB and other public examination bodies to prevent similar crises in the future.
