A series of devastating fires have struck Ibadan, Oyo State, causing significant damage to property and lives.
The latest blaze erupted early on Saturday morning at the Araromi spare parts market in Agodi-Gate, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
The fire, which began around 2 a.m., continued to rage as of the time of this report, with firefighters working diligently to contain the inferno.
Akinyemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, confirmed the incident, stating, “We are battling a serious fire at Agodi-Gate and urgently need assistance from water tanker owners to help put out the flames.”
The cause of the fire at the market is still under investigation.
In a separate incident on Friday, a fire claimed the lives of a man, his wife, and their grandson in the Ori-Eru area of Idikan, Ibadan.
The tragic blaze, which started around 3:46 a.m., destroyed a residential building and left the family dead.
These incidents follow a series of recent fire outbreaks in the city. On Sunday morning, a fire gutted three shops in Ibadan, though quick intervention from the state fire services saved 13 others from destruction.
Additionally, last Friday night, a fire engulfed a Christ Apostolic Church parish in Lagelu Local Government Area during a vigil, trapping several worshippers inside. Thankfully, there have been no reports of fatalities.
Authorities have launched investigations into the incidents and are urging residents to follow fire safety protocols to prevent further tragedies.
