The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has arrested 62 individuals during a midnight raid on Lagos Island as part of ongoing efforts to clear criminal elements and reclaim public spaces.
The operation, which commenced at 1:30am on Friday, focused on areas such as Victoria Island, Falomo, the Eko Hotel axis, Osborne, and nearby streets. A total of 59 males and 3 females were apprehended during the exercise.
Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the raid on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. He emphasized that the clean-up operation was crucial to restoring order in the city.
“In continuation of the agency’s clean-up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements, operatives of the Environmental Taskforce team set out at about 0130hrs on Friday and embarked on its ongoing clean-up enforcement operation on the Island,” Wahab stated.
He noted that the targeted areas had witnessed a growing presence of “undesirable elements,” prompting the intervention.
Wahab confirmed that all suspects arrested during the raid would be prosecuted.
“Sanity was restored in all the areas. All the suspects will be charged to court accordingly,” he said.
