Fom Daniel Chollom, a Labour Party member in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His decision, announced on Tuesday, follows the recent defection of five other lawmakers from the Labour Party to the APC.
Chollom attributed his move to internal disputes within the Labour Party, which he said hindered his ability to function effectively.
He also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and its development agenda.
The defection was formalized through a letter read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen.
However, this development sparked reactions in the House, with Deputy Minority Whip George Ozodinobi dismissing claims of a leadership crisis in the Labour Party.
He criticized defectors for lacking commitment and suggested that their seats be declared vacant.
Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda also questioned the legality of Chollom’s move, stating that proper procedures, such as resigning at the ward level, were not followed.
