The Katsina State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has called on Governor Dikko Radda to intensify efforts to secure the release of Dr. Yusuf Mai-Ruwa, who has been held captive by bandits for 14 days.
According to Afripost, Dr. Mai-Ruwa, along with several other health workers, was abducted from Kankara General Hospital, leaving his family—wife and children—devastated.
The association has urged the state government to implement stronger security measures at healthcare facilities, particularly in vulnerable areas, to prevent further kidnappings. They also called for immediate action to rescue Mai-Ruwa and others still in the hands of the kidnappers.
Additionally, NANNM has asked the government to offer compensation to health workers who have been affected by the increasing insecurity in the region. They further emphasized the need for better salaries to attract and retain skilled healthcare professionals, as the ongoing security issues continue to impact the state’s healthcare sector.
As the situation evolves, NANNM remains committed to advocating for the safety and security of healthcare workers in Katsina State.
