The Kano State Government has cautioned healthcare workers against the diversion of medical supplies and equipment, pledging to take strict disciplinary action against anyone found guilty of such acts.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, delivered the warning during the official rollout of health intervention commodities across the state.
He reaffirmed the administration’s determination to strengthen healthcare delivery by ensuring that medical facilities are adequately stocked with essential supplies.
He emphasized that all items being distributed—covering treatment for seven major health conditions—are to be provided at no cost to patients.
“We will not allow any misuse or misappropriation of these vital resources. Health workers caught in the act will face appropriate legal consequences,” the governor warned.
The interventions, part of the state’s “Abba Gida-Gida” health initiative, include dental chairs, school health kits, prescription eyeglasses, medications for sickle cell anemia, diabetic test kits, and maternal health packages.
Health Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf explained that the initiative is focused on supporting underserved communities while reinforcing the government’s broader health agenda.
He highlighted other achievements, including the renovation of 260 health centres and improved immunization coverage.
The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II—represented by Alhaji Muhammad Aminu Yusuf—and the Chairperson of ALGON, Hajiya Sa’adatu Yusuf Soja, commended the initiative. They pledged continued support from traditional and local authorities to ensure the success of the administration’s health sector reforms.
