Just In:Nigerian Traditional Ruler joins Ancestors

The Towulade of Akinale in Ewekoro local government area of Ogun State, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye has joined his ancestors.

He was 79 years old. He was a foremost journalist who had stints with the old Daily Times of Nigeria.

He retired as the General Manager, Public Relations of the defunct Nigeria Airways, was first installed as the Baale of Akinale in 2004 by former Governor Gbenga Daniel and was among those elevated to an Oba by the same administration in 2006.

Vanguard reliably gathered that the royal father was indisposed for some times and was taking to St. Thomas Hospital in London, where he died on Wednesday afternoon.

A source closed to the late monarch, told our Correspondent that the royal father who just completed his PhD programme in law, was warming up for his graduation in few weeks.

The source said, “Towulade of Akinale, Oba Olufemi Adewunmi Ogunleye joined his ancestors @79 in a London hospital after a brief illness”.

“May the soul of the Kabiyesi rest well and find favour in the bosom of his Creator. Amin

Great soul how sweet is thine Exodus. I am humbled, this is
a very big loss to us in the Owu Kingdom as a whole most especially Owu Abeokuta. May the good Lord give us the fortitude to bear the loss and may his beautiful soul rest in perfect peace. Good night Kabiyesi, Omo Olowu Oduru. You will be missed greatly.

It is with a heavy heart that I received the transition of Oba Olufemi Ogunleye(Towulade of Akinale, Owu.)
Oba Ogunleye facilitated the development of Akinale town during his lifetime.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
