American politician, diplomat, and attorney Marco Rubio has officially been sworn in as the United States Secretary of State. The swearing-in ceremony, which was monitored by our correspondent, took place on Tuesday and was conducted by Vice President James Vance.
In his new role, Rubio is expected to play a crucial role in shaping US foreign policy, particularly regarding relations with China and Latin America.
The US Senate confirmed Rubio’s nomination on Monday, making him the first permanent member of Donald Trump’s cabinet shortly after the new President was inaugurated for a second term. His nomination was overwhelmingly supported, with a unanimous 99-0 vote in the Senate.
During his recent appearance before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Rubio endorsed Trump’s “America First” vision for foreign policy, describing the new administration’s approach to international relations as a “commonsense realization.”
Before his appointment as Secretary of State, Rubio served as the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2008. His extensive legislative experience is expected to significantly influence his strategies and decisions as the nation’s top diplomat.
