The Supreme Court has annulled the Court of Appeal’s ruling that affirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
In a unanimous decision on Friday, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court ruled that the Court of Appeal lacked the authority to declare Abure the LP National Chairman. The court explained that disputes over party leadership fall under internal party matters, which are outside the jurisdiction of the courts, and noted that Abure’s term had already ended.
The court granted the appeal filed by Senator Ester Nenadi Usman and another plaintiff, declaring it valid, while rejecting the cross-appeal filed by Abure’s faction as unfounded.
