A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed July 9, 2025, to hear a case brought by former Rivers lawmaker, Farah Dagogo, against President Bola Tinubu and others over the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State.
The case is focused on the President’s decision to suspend Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly.
Dagogo believes the move was unconstitutional and wants the court to look into it.
At the last sitting, Justice James Omotosho postponed the hearing after lawyers representing two of the defendants requested more time to respond to documents from the plaintiff.
The lawyer for Dagogo did not object to their request.
The case was first filed in Port Harcourt but later moved to Abuja based on a directive from the Attorney-General of the Federation to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.
Dagogo is questioning the legal power of the President to remove elected state officials and replace them with an appointed administrator.
He insisted that such an action goes against the rules guiding democratic governance in the country.
