JUST IN: ODIRS Executive Chairman Resigns

Dr. Tolu Adegbie, the Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), has stepped down from his position, in accordance with Section 12 (1) (a) of the Ondo State Revenue Administration Law 2018. His resignation is linked to his recent appointment to the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Implementation Committee, a role that will necessitate his absence from ODIRS over the coming months.

Dr. Adegbie’s transition to this national role marks a significant development in his distinguished career. Under his leadership, ODIRS experienced notable advancements and transformation. He spearheaded numerous reforms and initiatives that significantly improved the state’s revenue generation and tax administration.

His tenure was marked by a dedicated effort to enhance fiscal policies, increase transparency, and engage taxpayers more effectively. Appointed by the late Ondo State Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, Dr. Adegbie began his public service as a member of the transition Budget and Finance Committee in December 2016. He was subsequently appointed Senior Special Assistant on Revenue in December 2017, and as Chairman of the Ondo State Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) in January 2018.

During his tenure, he achieved a remarkable increase in revenue, elevating the monthly average from N700 million in 2018 to N3.5 billion in 2023. Dr. Adegbie, who previously held senior positions at Wema Bank Plc and other commercial banks in Nigeria and the USA, leaves behind a legacy of significant fiscal achievements and innovations.

His term as Executive Chairman of ODIRS concluded on July 30, 2024.
