Joint security team rescues three kidnapped victims in Kebbi

A joint security operation has led to the successful rescue of three kidnapped victims in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, following a fierce gun battle with suspected abductors.

The victims—Muhammad Nasamu Namata, 25; Gide Namata, 20; and Hamidu Alhaji Namani, 35—were abducted in the early hours of Saturday, July 27, 2025, when armed men stormed Sangara village.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the rescue operation was carried out on Thursday, July 31, by a combined team comprising operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local vigilantes, and hunters. The mission was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Shanga Division.

“The joint team trailed the kidnappers to Shanga Hill, where they engaged the criminals in a gun duel. Overpowered by the superior firepower of the operatives, the kidnappers fled into the forest with suspected gunshot wounds, abandoning the victims,” the police spokesperson said.

The three hostages were rescued unhurt around 3:30 p.m. and have since been taken for medical examination. Authorities confirmed that they are in stable condition and will soon be reunited with their families.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, CP Bello Sani, commended the gallantry and coordination of the rescue team. He urged continued collaboration among security agencies to sustain efforts in combating criminal elements across the state.

CP Sani also called on residents to remain security-conscious and to promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to law enforcement agencies.
