A Prominent All Progressives Congress member, Joe Igbokwe, has criticised activist Aisha Yesufu, accusing her of displaying disrespectful behaviour towards the new national anthem.
During an event, Yesufu, renowned for her activism, chose not to participate in singing the national anthem “Nigeria we hail thee,” opting instead to remain seated while others stood to honor the anthem.
In a video shared on X on Friday, the co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls advocacy group was observed sitting while the new national anthem was being recited.
She captioned the video: “#NotMyNationalAnthem.”
Igbokwe, while reacting, via his Facebook page on Saturday, June 1 wrote: “Aisha Yesufu cannot respect the National Anthem. Let us see where all the nonsensical behaviour will take her to.
“She may not understand the damage she is doing to herself and her family. Continue.”
President Tinubu on Wednesday, May 29 signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law, restoring ‘Nigeria we hail thee’ as the official national anthem.
