IBEDC Denies Sacking 3000 Workers

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has dismissed reports suggesting it recently laid off 3,000 employees, describing the claims as false.

In a statement on Tuesday, IBEDC clarified that its total workforce is about 2,500, making it impossible for the company to terminate more employees than it has.

The company also stressed that such a large-scale dismissal would disrupt its operations and affect service delivery to customers.

IBEDC also addressed concerns about misinformation linking it to problems involving another organization and its staff.

It urged journalists and the public to verify facts before spreading unverified reports.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Oyo State chapter, recently led protests involving workers recruited through an outsourcing firm for IBEDC.

The demonstrators demanded better wages, improved promotion opportunities, and claimed some of their colleagues had been dismissed.

Following the protest, labour leaders, including the recently retired Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Sonubi, and other stakeholders, stepped in to mediate the situation.
