Armed assailants launched a deadly attack on Rubi community in Butura District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving 11 people dead, according to the state police command.
In a statement released in Jos on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer Alfred Alabo confirmed the incident, quoting Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina, who strongly condemned the violence. The Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) also corroborated the death toll.
The attack took place on the night of March 27, around 9:20 p.m., when gunmen invaded Ruwi village and opened fire indiscriminately. Several residents attending a wake lost their lives, while others sustained injuries.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officer in Bokkos to take swift action. He later visited the scene to assess the damage and offer condolences to the bereaved families.
Reacting to the tragedy, the Plateau State government denounced the killings and called on security agencies to apprehend those responsible. Commissioner for Information Joyce Ramnap urged residents to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions, assuring them of the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
