Grief as Grader Kills Mother, Child in Ondo

A heartbreaking tragedy has rocked Ute community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a motor grader reportedly crushed a mother and her child along the Olujewu–Igbatoro Road.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ose Local Government, Hon. Barr. Clement Kolapo Ojo, expressed deep sorrow in an official statement titled “Ose Local Government Mourns Tragic Loss in Ute Community.” He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire community.

“It is with a heavy heart that I address the people of Ute and the larger Ose Local Government over the painful loss of a mother and her young child, who tragically lost their lives in an accident involving a grader deployed for rural road rehabilitation,” the statement read.

According to the chairman, the incident was caused by a brake failure in the grader—equipment owned by the local government and in use for road improvement works. “What was meant to be a developmental project has, unfortunately, turned into a source of mourning,” he lamented.

Describing the victims as a hardworking mother and her innocent child who had simply gone about their daily routine, the council boss said the loss was deeply personal and painful for the entire local government.

In response, officials of the local government immediately visited the scene to condole with the affected family and assess the circumstances surrounding the accident. Ojo stressed that this was not just a gesture, but a sincere expression of empathy and responsibility.

He assured residents that a full investigation has begun to determine the exact cause of the mechanical failure. “We are also reviewing all safety procedures to prevent a recurrence. The safety and well-being of our people remain paramount,” he said.
