A tragic accident on the Onitsha-Oba Expressway in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, on Friday claimed the lives of four men, as reported by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
According to Afripost, Joyce Alexander, FRSC Sector Commander, confirmed that the crash occurred as a result of route violation, leading to a head-on collision between a private Toyota Hummer bus (UWN763XA), a government-owned Toyota Hummer bus without a registration number, and a Mercedes-Benz tipper.
Eyewitnesses indicated that one of the vehicles was traveling against traffic, which caused the crash involving the other two vehicles.
The crash involved five male adults, with four fatalities and one person injured.
The FRSC’s rescue efforts were initially delayed due to an attack by local youths from the Oba community. However, the rescue operation was eventually taken over by the Anambra State Anti-Tout personnel.
The FRSC team cleared the wreckage and managed traffic, restoring smooth flow on the road.
Commander Alexander expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to avoid reckless driving and route violations, especially on the expressway. She also appealed for public cooperation during rescue operations, stressing that any delays could further endanger lives.
“Drive to stay alive; safety is everyone’s responsibility,” she added.
