Former Lagos Lawmaker Dies in Auto Crash

A former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Akande, has passed away following complications sustained from a recent auto crash.

According to reports gathered by News Men, the two-term lawmaker died on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, after battling injuries sustained in a road accident that occurred last week in Ojo, Lagos State.

Akande, a legal practitioner by profession, represented Ojo Constituency I in the Lagos Assembly between 2015 and 2023. He was first elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 and later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), securing re-election in 2019.

During his time in the Assembly, Akande served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Petitions, and the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), where he was widely acknowledged for his contributions to legal and human rights reforms in the state.

His sudden death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from political colleagues, party members, and constituents, many of whom described him as a passionate advocate for justice and a committed public servant.

As of the time of filing this report, funeral arrangements have not yet been announced by the family.
