Flood swallows many vehicles in Ondo, amidst destruction of property

Friday Downpour at Ikare Akoko, Akoko northwest local government of Ondo state has reportedly led to flooding in the ancient town with many houses and cars submerged with the destruction of valuable properties.

Roving Reporters reports that the rain started around 3 pm on Friday and lasted almost 3hrs, causing gridlock on major roads.

Mostly affected by the flood was the area around River Dada which overflowed and flooded a church and 3 hotels in the area.

Another flashpoint where the flood wreaked havoc was a bridge after a ministry on the way to Agbaluku where water equally covered the bridge making it impassable for motorcycles and vehicles.

Many travellers had to pass the night in Ikare as they could not continue their journey due to the flood.

Reacting, the director of environmental services in Akoko northwest local government, Mrs Yemisi Adeniyi lamented that the incident occurred regularly during the rainy season because people blocked waterways with refuse.

Mrs Adeniyi urged those in such habit as well as those who build houses close to Riverbank to desist or face the wrath of the law.

Also speaking, a community leader Chief James Oladetohun urged the contractor handling Ikare dualisation road to complete the project while the federal government must declare Ikare Akoko.
