The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, has officially banned all forms of sign-out ceremonies by final-year students, citing concerns over public disturbance and misconduct.
In a circular reaffirmed by the institution’s Governing Council, the school stated that the decision, originally taken by the Top Management Committee in August 2024, remains in full effect and violators will face disciplinary action.
The Rector of the institution, Dr. Yahaya Baba Usman, warned students to strictly adhere to the directive, especially as the academic session progresses towards its conclusion. He said the ban was introduced to curb unruly behaviour often associated with sign-out celebrations, including defacing of clothes, pouring of water or other substances, and disruptive gatherings within and around the campus.
“We will not tolerate any act capable of breaching the peace and decorum of the campus community,” the Rector declared.
The Polytechnic’s authorities further emphasized that enforcement will be strict, with erring students liable to sanctions ranging from suspension to possible expulsion, depending on the gravity of the offence.
The institution urged parents and guardians to caution their wards, stressing that the policy was aimed at preserving discipline and upholding the school’s reputation.
This development aligns with similar actions taken by other tertiary institutions across the country to discourage excessive and sometimes dangerous graduation-related activities.
