The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the office of the Community Crime Prevention Initiative of Nigeria (CCPIN) in Aba, Abia State, over allegations that the group was unlawfully presenting itself as a government-authorised enforcement agency.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with security agencies, took place at the CCPIN premises located at 214 Aba-Owerri Road. The FCCPC acted on credible intelligence that the organisation was misrepresenting itself as being affiliated with the Commission, thereby misleading members of the public.
According to Ondaje Ijagwu, FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, the facility’s operator, identified as Ambassador Dr. Onwuka K. Okorie, was apprehended during the raid and is currently being held at the World Bank Police Station in Abayi-Aba for further investigation and possible prosecution.
“Items recovered from the scene included materials falsely bearing the FCCPC’s name and logo, as well as unauthorised enforcement documents,” Ijagwu noted.
The FCCPC emphasized that it has no affiliation with CCPIN or any similar entity, adding that it does not assign its enforcement powers to private organisations or individuals without legal backing.
In a public advisory, the Commission urged Nigerians to ignore any communications or enforcement actions attributed to CCPIN or its agents. It reiterated its commitment to upholding consumer rights through lawful and transparent processes.
