Extradition: FG sends delegation to Cotonou as Igboho expected to be arraigned today

Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, is expected to be arraigned today in court at Cotonou, the Republic of Benin, over immigration-related offences, Starnews Nigeria has learnt.

Starnews Nigeria also gathered that a delegation by the Nigerian government will be joining the former Chief of Army Staff and Nigeria Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Tukur Yusuf Buratai, to meet with the government of Benin for Igboho’s extradition to Nigeria as supporters planned massive protest ahead of the court sitting against his extradition.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had on July 1 raided the residence of Igboho in Ibadan, Oyo State, over an allegation that Igboho was stockpiling weapons to destabilise Nigeria.

While many of his Aides and associates were arrested by the DSS during the raid with two others killed, Igboho, who rose to prominence in January 2021 after he issued an ultimatum to ‘killer herders’ in parts of Ibarapaland, was said to have escaped the DSS raid and ever since then, he has been declared wanted by the Nigerian government.

The Yoruba Nation agitator has been on the run since the raid before he was arrested with his wife, Ropo, at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic around 8pm on Monday in an attempt to fly to Germany.

They were subsequently detained in separate cells.
