El-Rufai confirms Buhari approved his defection from APC to SDP

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was done with the knowledge and approval of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to AFRIPOST, On March 10, El-Rufai announced his resignation from the APC on social media, attributing his departure to irreconcilable differences.

He also mentioned that he had consulted key political figures before aligning himself with the SDP ahead of the 2027 elections.

During an interview with BBC Hausa, El-Rufai disclosed that he personally informed Buhari about his plans and received his endorsement.

“I went to see him on a Friday and explained my decision to leave. I always involve him in my political moves,” he said.

He also shared that before finalizing his decision, he showed Buhari a list of his commissioners to verify if any had ever disrespected him. After reviewing the names, Buhari gave his approval and prayed for him.

“I have a circle of trusted individuals I consult on critical matters. Buhari is my foremost political mentor, though I prefer not to mention the others to avoid external pressure,” El-Rufai added.
