The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Tuesday ordered the suspension of Dr. Caulson Oahimire, who was serving as the Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
The action was taken after concerns were raised about how funds were being managed under his leadership.
The decision was announced through a statement released in Benin by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor. According to the statement, the suspension followed reports of serious financial and official misconduct.
The state government has decided to look deeper into the matter by setting up a special committee to examine the claims against Dr. Oahimire.
While the investigation is ongoing, the most senior staff member at the agency has been asked to step in and manage affairs to ensure the agency continues its duties without disruption.
The government said this step was necessary to allow for an honest and clear process.
The suspension adds to growing concerns in the state about how public officials handle government responsibilities, especially when it affects key sectors like health.
The outcome of the investigation is expected to determine what further steps will be taken.
