The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has expressed grave concern over the escalating violence, banditry, and kidnappings affecting its members in Kaduna and Plateau states, urging the Federal Government to take swift action to address the crisis.
During a press conference in Jos, ECWA’s General Secretary, Rev. Ayuba Asheshe, disclosed that the Church had spent over N300 million on ransom payments, with more than 50 members still being held captive by kidnappers.
“We are deeply saddened by the wave of violence plaguing our members and communities, particularly in Kaduna and Plateau states,” Rev. Asheshe said. “The ongoing attacks—marked by banditry, kidnappings, and militia violence—require urgent and decisive intervention from both the government and all stakeholders.”
Focusing on the situation in Kaduna, Rev. Asheshe highlighted the severe impact of persistent attacks on the Kwassam DCC in Kauru Local Government Area. Over 20 lives have been lost in the area, and more than 100 individuals, including church members and local residents, have been abducted.
Despite the substantial amounts already spent on ransoms, Rev. Asheshe lamented that more than 50 people remain in captivity, creating immense financial and emotional strain on the Church and their families. Many of the victims have also lost their livelihoods, he added.
Additionally, the attacks, primarily targeting farming communities, have severely disrupted agricultural activities, further threatening food security in the region.
