Customs seizes containers of machetes, cutlasses, others from China

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Apapa Command has seized seven containers filled with prohibited items from China, India, and Turkey.

These items include 12,000 pieces of cutlasses and machetes, 4,129 packages of frozen poultry products, 368 jumbo bales of used second-hand clothing, and expired pharmaceuticals.

The duty paid value (DPV) of the seized goods totals N292,244,857.00.

Customs Area Controller of Apapa Port, Controller Babatunde Olomu, emphasized that these imports violate the revised import prohibition list of the Common External Tariff (CET) and Section 233 of the Nigeria Customs Act 2023.

Controller Olomu highlighted the command’s commitment to preventing smuggling and ensuring all consignments undergo proper examination.

The seized pharmaceuticals were handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further investigation and regulatory action.
