The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled October 6 to hear a case filed by former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is seeking to stop the sale of her assets already forfeited to the Nigerian government.
The case, which was initially filed in 2023, stems from a public notice by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announcing the sale of her properties.
Alison-Madueke is asking the court to cancel the notice, claiming that the forfeiture order was made without giving her a fair chance to defend herself.
During the court session on Monday, her lawyer informed the judge that they had received two motions from the EFCC and had submitted their responses.
EFCC’s lawyer, who was appearing for the first time, confirmed his readiness to proceed.
The presiding judge also said it was his first time handling the matter, leading to the adjournment.
Alison-Madueke insists that the process that led to the forfeiture of her assets did not follow due process, as she was neither served with a formal charge nor given access to the supporting documents or summons.
In response, the EFCC is asking the court to reject her application.
The agency insists that the forfeiture was lawfully handled and followed the correct legal steps.
The case will now continue in October as the court prepares to decide whether or not the asset sale should go ahead.
