Civic activist Omoyele Sowore has called on Nigerians to demand internal reform, stating that the country should have long been listed as a “Country of Concern” because of its consistent failures to protect its citizens.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Sowore sharply criticized the state’s leadership for failing to safeguard all faith groups — Christians, Muslims and traditional believers — and for neglecting vulnerable groups including children, women, students, workers, and the elderly.
He highlighted repeated violence and suffering across Nigeria, citing Christian communities in Benue, Plateau, Gombe and Kaduna states, as well as Muslim populations in Katsina, Zamfara, Borno and Yobe, who he said continue to face “relentless attacks”.
“Across the nation, Nigerians whipped by hunger, poverty and displacement cry out for safety and dignity,” he said in his Facebook post.
Sowore warned that while foreign designations and international attention may bring temporary relief, they cannot replace the need for genuine internal leadership change.
“No foreign power can fix what corrupt and careless leaders have broken from within,” he stated. “The true solution lies in real leadership, not in outside help.”
He concluded by calling for “visionary, accountable and people-centered leadership” — a new kind of governance that will protect citizens, unite the country, and reconstruct the nation from the ground up — closing his statement with the rallying tagline: #RevolutionNow.
