BREAKING: Tanker explosion kills several, injures others in Zaria

Several persons have been confirmed dead, with others injured, following a tanker explosion on Monday morning at Dan Magaji, Zaria, Kaduna State.

The incident, which occurred around 8:30 a.m., happened near the Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass, from Kwangila to Dan Magaji.

Eyewitnesses said the crash involved two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-filled Volkswagen Golf cars. The collision reportedly triggered five loud explosions, sending massive flames and thick black smoke billowing into the sky, which engulfed the highway.

“All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” a witness disclosed.

Emergency responders, including security personnel, have since cordoned off the area, while rescue and recovery operations are ongoing. Motorists have been advised to avoid the route to allow emergency teams unhindered access.

Authorities are yet to release the official casualty figures as efforts to put out the fire and evacuate victims continue.
